A hydraulic bed uses heavy-duty gas pistons (pneumatic cylinders) mounted on both sides of the inner sub-frame. When you lift the mattress base using a fabric pull loop, the compressed nitrogen inside the pistons expands, carrying 90% of the mattress weight.
